The Bangles formed in the early '80s. Along with the Go-Go's, the Bangles were one of the new generation of all-women bands. The original lineup consisted of Susanna Hoffs and Debbi and Vicki Peterson; Michael Steele joined the Bangles in 1983.

The Bangles debut All Over The Place featured the single "Manic Monday" which was a No. 2 hit. The 1986 follow-up release, Different Light featured the No. 1 hit single "Walk Like an Egyptian". "Walk Like an Egyptian" also put the band in the spotlight on MTV and the radio.

In 1988, the Bangles released Everything, which also went multi-platinum and included their best-selling single in "Eternal Flame" but trouble was on the horizon. The band split up and took some time apart. Viki Peterson joined the Go-Go's, Susanna Hoffs tried her hand at solo work, and Debbie Peterson had a brief stint with Siobhan Maher.

The Bangles regrouped in 2000, and released a new album in 2003 called Doll Revolution. The album sold poorly and did not receive the best reviews. In 2005, it was announced that Michael Steele left the band.
