Joseph Henry Burnett, or T Bone Burnett to his fans, was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1948 and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. After 14 years out of the spotlight, T Bone Burnett reappeared in 2006 with The True False Identity and Twenty Twenty The Essential T Bone Burnett. The latter is a 40-song retrospective through the years of T Bone Burnett's musical career.
T Bone Burnett released his first album in 1972, The B-52 Band and the Fabulous Skybirds. In 1975 and 1976, T Bone Burnett was lucky enough to tour with Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue. Two members of that band, David Mansfield and Steven Soles, joined with T Bone Burnett to form the Alpha Band. The Alpha Band released three albums, with two in 1977 and another in 1978.
In 1985, T Bone Burnett and Elvis Costello teamed up for "The People's Limousine" under the stage name of the Coward Brothers. Two years later T Bone Burnett produced In Dreams: The Greatest Hits by Roy Orbison.
Later on, T Bone Burnett had a hand in producing albums such as the Counting Crows' August and Everything After, Los Lobos' How Will the Wolf Survive? and the Wallflowers' Bringing Down the Horse. The year 2000 saw T Bone Burnett have a hand in the soundtrack for O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which has since gone on to sell over 7 million copies.
T Bone Burnett most recently worked with Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix for their roles in the Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash biopic Walk the Line. And in April 2006 T Bone Burnett announced that he would be touring for the first time in nearly 20 years.
