Susannah Information

Susannah was created by Carlisle Floyd while he was working at Florida State University in the '50s. His revised version tells the Apocryphal tale of Susannah and the Elders. Eighteen-year-old Susannah Polk lives in a small town of New Hope Valley, where she is viewed as a sinner. Olin Blitch attempts to lead her away, which leads to tragedy. Susannah first premiered on February 24, 1955 at Florida State University at the Ruby Diamond Auditorium; the opera is one of the longest-running American operas.
