The 1975 Brittish Reggae band Steel Pulse was formed by David Hinds (lead vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (lead guitar, vocals) and Ponnic McQueen (bass). As the songwriter Hinds has always been the engine behind Steel Pulse. The Rastafarian band Steel Pulse spreads messages of hope, education, and activism. And they have struck a chord with music lovers worldwide. Their lyrics promote fighting injustice and they have earned a UK Grammy Award.
Highlights of Steel Pulse's 30-year career include their contribution of the song "Can't Stand it" to Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing movie soundtrack. In 1993, at the request of the Clinton Administration, Steel Pulse became the first reggae band ever to perform during the inaugural festivities in Washington DC. They were also the first reggae band ever to perform on The Tonight Show. Currently Steel Pulse tours with a nine-piece ensemble.
