Few may know that the German hard rock gods, Scorpions, began their music journey in the early 1960's. Perhaps best known for their 80's anthem, "Rock You like a Hurricane," Scorpions members share a 30 year history together.

The conception of Scorpions was the idea of founding (and current) band member/rhythm guitarist Rudolf Schenker in 1965. With the addition of brother Michael Schenker on lead guitar and vocalist Klaus Meine in 1969, Scorpions became full- fledged hard rock band.

Scorpions' first tour in support of their debut album release, Lonesome Crow, in 1972 found the band opening for British rock band UFO. At the end of the tour they offered guitarist Michael Schenker the lead guitar job; an offer which Michael soon accepted. After Michael Schenker's departure, Scorpions dissolved. Then in 1974, guitarist Uli Roth joined the ranks and Scorpions were born again. Albums Fly to the Rainbow, Virgin Killer, and Taken by Force were released and soon afterwards; the Scorpions were aggressively promoted in the United States.

Uli Roth left the band in 1978 and thus began the most well-known Scorpions line-up: Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (guitar), Francis Buchholz (bass), Herman Rarebell (drums), and Matthias Jabs (guitar). Shortly after the new line-up was formed, Michael Schenker quit UFO and rejoined Scorpions. The band went to the studio to record their next album, Lovedrive, which many fans and critics consider the pinnacle of Scorpions career. It was followed by Animal Magetism. Blackout, released in 1982, quickly became the Scorpions best selling record to date, eventually going platinum.

The year 1984 cemented Scorpions status as hard rock/metal superstars with the release of Love At First Sting, the album that contained the monster single "Rock You Like a Hurricane". Extensive world tours followed and their next release took four years. Savage Amusement was more pop-oriented and although it sold well, was considered somewhat of a critical disappointment. Scorpions then became the first Western band to play in the former Soviet Union. As a result, the band developed a strong Russian fan base which is still in force today.

The band's long-serving bassist, Francis Buchholz left the group in 1991, followed by drummer Herman Rarebell in 1996. Four Scorpions albums followed, but did little to return the band to the spotlight.

In 2004, Scorpions released Unbreakable, an album that was hailed as a long awaited return to form. It was one of the heaviest records Scorpions had released; however, poor promotion and weak airplay prevented the album from hitting the charts. Scorpions continue to tour extensively sometimes accompanying metal icons such as Judas Priest.
