Rush is a Canadian rock band of only three members. Geddy Lee is responsible for bass, keyboard, and vocals; Alex Lifeson plays guitar; and Neil Peart plays the drums. Formed the summer of 1968 in Willowdale, Ontario, Rush released their self-titled debut in July 1974. Rush was released two weeks before their first headlining tour of the United States; Rush saw limited local release and popularity until it was picked up by a radio station in Ohio. The seven-minute single "Working Man" was responsible for bringing Rush to the U.S.

Rush released several more albums in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, each one more experimental than the one before it. Not only where the lyrics and music progressive for that time, but the instruments of choice were suddenly diversified. Rush began experimenting with triangles, glockenspiel, and cow bells, to name a few. The 1980 release Permanent Waves showed a dramatic shift in Rush's style of music. More synthesizers were used and the lyrics began to take on a more expository tone. Moving Pictures, released in 1981, would eventually go on to sell over 4 million copies and is one of the more successful Rush albums to date.

Rush continued to release albums in the ‘80s and in the early ‘90s dropped the synthesizer from their music. Rush continued touring through 1997 during the promotion of Test for Echo, the band's 16th release. After a four year hiatus, Rush headed back to the studio and released Vapor Trails in 2001. Rush recorded Rush in Rio, a live album, in 2003. Now in their 30th year of music, Rush continues to tour.

The influence of Rush can be seen by the likes of Dream Theater, Symphony X, and the Smashing Pumpkins, to name a few. Throughout their career, Rush has been known for complex compositions, erudite lyrics, and their inspirational friendship. Three decades of success later and Rush is still going strong.
