Born as Robyn Rihanna Fenty on February 21, 1988 but now simply known as Rihanna, the Barbadian singer got her big break at the age of 15. Her friend introduced her to music producer Even Rogers, who, along with his partner Carl Sturken, helped Rihanna bring her demo to the United States. Rihanna would audition in front of Jay-Z at the age of 16 and was signed on the spot.

Her debut, Music of the Sun, was released in 2005. "Pon de Replay" peaked at No. 2 on the charts, while "If It's Lovin' That You Want" would only hit the Top 20 in several countries. The album would eventually go platinum in various countries around the world but only gold in the U.S.

Rihanna released A Girl Like Me in 2006. The first single, "S.O.S.," hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, while "Unfaithful" hit No. 2. The album would be certified platinum. While her 2005 tour was in support of Gwen Stefani, Rihanna's 2006 tour features her as the headliner.
