Italian-American comedian and actor Ray Romano was born in Queens, NY and originally entered college planning to be an accountant. An open-mike night at a New York comedy club in l984 changed that plan. Ray Romano embarked on a decade-long struggle to succeed as a standup while holding a more reliable day job. After winning a standup comedy competition in New York, Ray Romano got a manager. Ray Romano is married to Anna Scarpulla, whom he met while working at a bank before he was famous. The couple has four children, including a set of twins.

Guest spots on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson began in 1991, then again with Jay Leno and finally on the Late Show with David Letterman. Recognizing his talent, David Letterman offered Ray Romano a development deal with his production company. Ray Romano had originally been cast to play "Joe" on the now-cancelled 1995 television sitcom NewsRadio, but he was replaced by Joe Rogan because of differing comedy styles. The following year Ray Romano's sitcom, backed by David Letterman, debuted. Everybody Loves Raymond ran through 2005. By the time Everybody Loves Raymond ended, Romano was earning $1.8 million per episode, making him at that time the highest-paid actor on TV.

Ray Romano made his movie debut as the voice of a Mammoth in 2002's Ice Age . A 2004 feature film Welcome to Mooseport starred Ray Romano opposite Gene Hackman. He appeared before President Bill Clinton and headlined the Toyota Comedy Festival at Carnegie Hall. A CD titled Ray Romano: Live at Carnegie Hall followed and received a Grammy nomination. Ray Romano donated all of its proceeds to the September 11 Fund. A book based on his comedy was also released, entitled Everything and a Kite. Another comic milestone for Ray Romano was when he hosted Saturday Night Live.

Ray Romano won the 2002 Emmy Award as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, one of five nominations he received. He won the 2002 and 2003 People's Choice Award as Favorite Male TV Performer. And was nominated for AFI Actor of the Year and a Golden Globe Award. He won a TV Guide Award as Actor of the Year in a Comedy Series, an American Comedy Award as the Funniest Male Lead in a TV Series and the 1999 Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Comedy.
