Rain has enjoyed a career that stretched much longer than the Beatles and preserved the legacy of the immortal band's recorded music on stage. The five members of Rain include four portraying John, Paul, George and Ringo, and a fifth sitting offstage to contribute keyboards and various sounds of the Beatles' background instrumentation. Attempting to replicate the music perfectly, Rain even masters the intricate studio material recorded after 1967 that the Beatles never performed on stage.
In the mid-1970s, Mark Lewis began performing Beatles cover songs with two other musicians, gaining local popularity. When the band was hired by Dick Clark to record the music for the 1979 made-for-TV movie Birth of the Beatles in 1979, they got a big break. Some of Rain's members left to create their own original music. The lineup changed and several stage-savvy veterans of the Beatlemania productions joined Lewis. Joey Curatolo (portraying Paul McCartney), Joe Bithorn and Ralph Castelli (portraying Ringo Starr) became Rain members. Steve Landes became a member of the band in 1997.
Rain progresses through four costume and set changes that follow the four phases of the Beatles career: early (Ed Sullivan-show era), psychedelic (Sergeant Pepper), flower-power (Magical Mystery Tour period) and latter (White Album/Abbey Road/Let it Be years). The show has gotten bigger through the years to more of a Broadway-style production.
