Prince Information

Prince was born into a family of music. His mother was a singer, while his father was a jazz pianist. Prince first started his music by teaching himself how to play the piano, guitar, and drums and later starting a band called Grand Central. Grand Central, later renamed Champagne, made a couple demos and would eventually be picked up by Warner Bros. while Prince was still in his teens.

Prince ultimately would go solo playing the genre of funk-pop. His first two albums were relatively successful, and he recorded his first hit with Dirty Mind. '1999' was also a monster hit for Prince, selling over three million copies, but it was 'Purple Rain' that made Prince famous. It sold over 10 million copies and spent 24 weeks at number one. Ten years later, in 1994, Prince found himself in a legal battle with Warner Bros. He proclaimed to be their slave, while they demanded two more albums. Warner Bros eventually got their two albums and Prince became an independent artist. Recently, Prince released a hot album titled Musicology, featuring a hit single with the same title.
