Don't let the tattoos and dreadlocks fool you, the Southern California hard rockers P.O.D. may look like other rock bands but they are all about their Christian message. P.O.D., also known as Payable On Death, is proudly Christian. The P.O.D. rap-rock style sets rap lyrics against heavy guitar beats. P.O.D. sometimes infuses reggae into its fist-pumping, spiritual rock anthems. Longtime fans, called Warriors, have enjoyed P.O.D. concerts since 1992, but most Americans didn't start looking for P.O.D. tickets until 1994.

P.O.D. produced two independent albums and built a Christian rock following first in San Diego, then nationwide. Original members included drummer Wuv Bernardo, guitarist Marcos Curiel, singer Sonny Sandoval, and bassist Traa Daniels. They signed with Atlantic records and released a mainstream debut, 'The Fundamental Elements of Southtown,' in 1994. Singles from the album 'Rock the Party' and 'Southtown' became rock radio hits and their videos enjoyed heavy play on MTV2. 'School of Hard Knocks' was featured on the soundtrack for the film Little Nicky.

The second P.O.D. album, 'Satellite,' featured the hit single 'Alive,' a song that promoted gratitude for life. Coincidentally, it was released on the same day as the September 11 attacks. 'Alive' became a huge pop Radio hit for P.O.D. as well as a rock radio hit and one of the most played videos of the year on MTV and MTV2. P.O.D.'s next single 'Youth of the Nation,' was influenced by some of the school shootings. It also experienced widespread success. Marcos Curiel left P.O.D. in 2003, replaced by Jason Truby. P.O.D. released the album 'Payable On Death' later that year. In 2003, the song "Sleeping Awake" was featured in the film The Matrix Reloaded. P.O.D.'s music has also been featured in the films The Passion of Christ, XXX: The State of the Union, and Any Given Sunday.

P.O.D. has a very loyal fan base called 'The Warriors.' Two tribute albums to their fans bear the Warriors name. 'Testify,' released in early 2006, is the second album since guitarist Jason Truby replaced founding member Marcos Curiel. The P.O.D. single 'Lights Out' was featured as the official theme song of the WWE's Survivor Series pay per view event. P.O.D. sticks to their musical roots even as the musical landscape around it changes. P.O.D. stands out because it consistently promotes faith-based messages in its work, unlike many Christian artists after they begin to market to a more secular audience.
