Phil Vassar got his start in the music industry in the early '90s. He began writing songs for Jo Dee Messina ("Bye, Bye" and "I'm Alright"), Alan Jackson ("Right on the Money") and Tim McGraw ("My Next Thirty Years" and "For A Little While"). Those songs would hit No. 1 before Phil Vassar had even released an album of his own. He was signed to Arista Records and released a self-titled debut in 2000, American Child in 2002, and Shaken Not Stirred in 2004.

"Just Another Day In Paradise" hit No. 1 on the US Country charts and "That's When I Love You" would hit No. 3. Both singles were off of Phil Vassar. Phil Vassar would see "In A Real Love," off of Shaken Not Stirred hit No. 1 in 2004. The closest Phil Vassar would get to topping the charts after that would be with "Last Day Of My Life" from Greatest Hits, Vol. 1, which hit No. 2. Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 (2006) is also Phil Vassar's most recent release.

Phil Vassar was also a judge on the television show Nashville Star in 2005 and 2006. He is married to Julie Wood-Vassar, who is also a songwriter. They have two children together.
