Patricia Mae Andrzejewski was born January 10, 1953 in Brooklyn. Known to the world simply as Pat Benetar, she found fame in the ‘80s with hits such as "Heartbreaker," "I Need a Lover," and "You Better Run." "You Better Run" was the second video ever shown on MTV.

At the age of 19, she married her high school sweetheart Dennis T. Benetar, hence the name change. Shortly after the newlyweds moved to Virginia, she worked as a bank clerk by day and a singer at night. By 1975 they had moved back to New York, and Pat Benetar was soon discovered in a New York night club while performing in an amateur night contest at Catch a Rising Star. She was signed to Chrysalis Records.

She released her debut album, In the Heat of the Night in 1979, and it hit No. 12 in the United States. Her follow-up, Crimes of Passion, hit No. 2 in the States, and 1981's Precious Times was her biggest hit to date, with a No. 1 position on the charts. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" from Crimes of Passion was her highest hit at that time, at No. 9 on the U.S. Hot 100.

"Love is a Battlefield" off of 1983's Live From Earth and "We Belong" off of 1984's Tropico both hit No. 5 as her highest-charting songs.

Pat Benetar won four straight Grammy Awards for Best Rock Vocal Performance in 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983; she also received an additional four nominations in 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1989.

Eventually Pat Benetar would marry Neil Giraldo and have two children with him. Her latest release, Go came out in 2003. Pat Benetar and Neil Giraldo tour together today.
