Oasis began when Liam Gallagher joined what was previously known as Rain. The Manchester-based Oasis first began playing live in August of 1991 at the Boardwalk club in Manchester. A few months later, Noel Gallagher joined the band, with the condition that he would be the songwriter and leader of the band. Oasis was signed to Creation Records in 1993 and released its debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994. Definitely Maybe entered the charts in the UK at No. 1.

When Oasis embarked on their first tour in the United States, the tension between the Gallagher brothers began growing. Noel quit the band and had to be cajoled into rejoining Oasis. When Oasis began recording their second album their drummer was fired and he was subsequently replaced. During 1995, a heated rivalry began between rival British band Blur and Oasis; Noel Gallagher was reportedly responsible for various quotes that inspired the drama. Nevertheless, Oasis managed to outsell Blur when the two bands released a single and an album around the same time. And unlike Oasis, Blur failed to find success in the United States. (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, the second release from Oasis, became one of the largest-selling albums in the UK, and the single "Champagne Supernova" hit No. 20 on the U.S. charts.

Be Here Now was released in 1997. The hype leading up the release of the album lead Be Here Now to be the fast-selling album release in the UK. While Be Here Now managed to outsell Definitely Maybe, it still paled in comparison to the success of (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. Oasis released their fourth album, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants in 2000 after forming their own label. Big Brother, so named after Noel, was a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. StandindIS THIS SPELLING CORRECT? is Oasis' poorest selling album to date. Oasis embarked on a World Tour in 2000. Liam and Noel Gallagher were involved in yet another fight, and Noel again threatened to quit the band. Liam and Noel fought for over two months before Noel rejoined the band for the Irish and British legs of the tour.

Oasis released a fifth album in 2002 called Heathen Chemistry. Again Oasis embarked on a World Tour and again their experience was laden with drama. A car accident, a mysterious mid-show disappearance by Liam, an arrest due to a drunken brawl in a bar fight, and numerous show cancellations all lead to Oasis hiding out for the rest of 2003. Oasis released Don't Believe the Truth in May 2005 after nearly three years off. June 2005 saw Oasis embark on yet another international tour, which began with a sold out concert in Toronto, which followed with sold out shows in Chicago and New York City. Oasis won two awards at the Q Awards in 2005. The Oasis tour is scheduled to last until March 2006 and there is speculation that Oasis will return with their seventh release sometime in 2007.
