Canadian actor and comedian Norm MacDonald is listed as No. 83 on Comedy Central's list of 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time. The child of two teachers Norm MacDonald was born in 1963. He entered show business as a stand up comedian.
After moving to Los Angeles he became a writer for the television show Roseanne. In 1993 Norm MacDonald joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, eventually moving into the role of Weekend Update anchor. Known for repeatedly harpooning celebrities such as O.J. Simpson and Michael Jackson amid scandals, Norm MacDonald inspired controversy. In 1997 he was fired from SNL though many cast and crew members did not agree with the decision.
In 1999, Norm MacDonald starred in a sitcom called The Norm Show, later renamed Norm, co-starring Faith Ford and Ian Gomez. It lasted three seasons on ABC. Norm MacDonald has appeared in as part of ensemble casts in a number of films including Dirty Work, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, The Animal, Man On The Moon, Screwed, and The Benchwarmers. Comedy Central hired Norm MacDonald to do a sketch/stand-up show in 2005.
Norm MacDonald started as a stand up and he still thrills audiences with occasional stand-up appearances. Norm MacDonald has also done extensive voice work including characters in the Doctor Doolitle feature films, several cartoon characters and a number of high profile commercial campaigns.
