Ne-Yo was born as Shaffer Chimere Smith on October 18, 1982 in Camden, Arkansas but he was raised in Las Vegas. His stage name is Ne-Yo. Prior to his own record career, Ne-Yo was best known for co-writing Mario's 2004 hit "Let Me Love You." Ne-Yo's debut, In My Own Words, was released in 2006.
In My Own Words debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts; at the same time, the first single off of the release, "So Sick," would also hit No. 1 on the charts. His second single, "When You're Mad" hit No. 15 on the charts, and "Sexy Love" hit No. 9. Ne-Yo also wrote Rihanna's Top 10 hit "Unfaithful."
