Mudhoney began as a number of different joke bands. By 1988, Steve Turner, Dan Peters, and Matt Lukin joined together to form a much more serious band; the name Mudhoney comes from the Russ Meyer movie of the same name, even though none of the band members have seen it.
Mudhoney was signed to Sub Pop and released their first single in 1988. Their EP release Bigmuff was the epitome of the Seattle grunge sound of that time. South Youth invited Mudhoney on their tour of England in 1989. That same year, Mudhoney released their self-titled debut album. Their second album, Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge, was released in 1991; after that release, Mudhoney left Sub Pop for Reprise Records. Mudhoney would release more albums in the '90s, including Piece of Cake in 1992, My Brother the Cow in 1995, and Tomorrow Hit Today in 1998.
After their years with Reprise, Mudhoney decided to return to Sub Pop. They added Guy Maddison and released Since We've Become Translucent in 2002. Mudhoney's latest release was 2006's Under a Billion Suns. Current Mudhoney members are Mark Arm, Steve Turner, Dan Peters, and Guy Maddison.
