His powerful, gravelly voice is unmistakable. Michael Bolton, the pop, rock and adult contemporary singer-songwriter known for his soft rock ballads, has sold 53 million records and had nine No. 1 hits.

Born in 1953, he signed his first record contract at age 15 but didn't rise to large scale success until his mid thirties. Along the way Michael Bolton played in a hard rock band called Blackjack. He cowrote "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You" for Laura Branigan and wrote for her again in 1985 penning the song "I Found Someone." Cher picked up the song two years later and made it a success. Bolton recorded an album in 1983 and found his first success recording someone else's song. "Sittin' on The Dock of the Bay" brought Michael Bolton fame in 1987. His blue-eyed soul singing struck a chord with fans. He would go on to release eight Top 10 albums. "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" won Michael Bolton a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Bolton won another Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "When a Man Loves a Woman" in 1992 but received criticism from the press.

Michael Bolton has released a collection of opera and arias, an album of classic cover songs, a Sinatra tribute album, and a number of albums he wrote himself. He has also written songs for such artists as Barbra Streisand, KISS, Kenny Rogers, Kenny G, Peabo Bryson and Patti Labelle.

Michael Bolton proposed to actress Nicollette Sheridan in 2006. Bolton is the father of three daughters (Isa, Holly and Taryn) born during his 1975-1990 marriage to Maureen McGuire. In 1993, he established the Michael Bolton Foundation (now the Michael Bolton Charities, Inc.) to assist women and children at risk from the effects of poverty and emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. The foundation has provided over $3.7 million in funding to local and national charities. He has also lobbied Congress for these causes. Bolton has received the Lewis Hine Award from the National Child Labor Committee, the Martin Luther King Award from the Congress of Racial Equality, and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor from the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations. He was also honored with a star on the "Walk of Fame" for his musical and charitable contributions.
