Matchbox 20 Information

A staple of modern rock and adult alternative in the late 90's, Matchbox 20 released their first single in 1996. Originally, critics assumed Matchbox 20 to be a one hit wonder. Little did they know the impact that the band would have on modern rock. Their original album, Yourself or Someone Like You, never managed to dominate the charts but went platinum 10 times since it's release within the United States.

They did well in foreign territories, including Canada, but they truly connected with Australia, where they went platinum eight times; in neighboring New Zealand, the band went quintuple platinum. Although still not impressing critics, the band won the Best New Band by Rolling Stone's annual reader's poll in late 1998 proving their popularity among mainstream music fans. A collaboration with Santana by lead singer Rob Thomas brought even more success as the hit Smooth dominated the charts in 1999. This success only built a larger fan base as their original album peaked at over 10 million copies in 2000 qualifying them for the RIAA's Diamond Award. Since this time, Matchbox 20 has participated in successful live shows and released more albums keeping their music strong within the industry today.
