Margaret Cho was born as Moran Cho on December 5, 1968. She found success in 1994 when she won the American Comedy Award for Best Female Comedian in 1994. That same year she starred in a television sitcom but All American Girl was cancelled (Margaret Cho had been the first female Asian American to have a television series focus her).

Margaret Cho has been involved in a number of one-woman shows. I'm the One That I Want showcased her difficulty breaking into show business while placing the blame on her weight and ethnicity. Notorious C.H.O. was released in 2002, and dealt with her issues of bisexuality and having been raised in San Francisco in the '70s. Both shows led to book deals, live movie versions, and albums.

In 2004 she released Revolution and set up her Web site, which featured a daily blog. A strong advocate of the gay and lesbian community, Margaret Cho started Love is Love, a Web site devoted to promoting the legalization of gay marriage in the States.

Margaret Cho starred in the show Assassin in 2005, and it premiered on the gay and lesbian cable network Here! TV in September 2005. She began belly dancing in 2006 and now has her own line of belly dancing accessories that are sold on her Web site. April 2006 saw the beginning of "The Sensuous Woman," a monthly comedy/bellydancing/burlesque show at a restaurant in California.

While Margaret Cho's act is notorious for being particularly explicit, she does cover a variety of topics in her shows ranging from gay men, political commentary, and issues of race.
