Singer-songwriter Marc Cohn is best known for "Walking in Memphis," which can be heard on his self-titled debut from when it was released in 1991. Starting off a career with such a huge hit can be difficult to top. Although he continued to create soulful music with strong metaphors Marc Cohn never received the exposure he got when he kicked off his career. Marc Cohn never set out to be a star, just a great musician. He won a Grammy with his first album.

Marc Cohn was heavily influenced by the music of Van Morrison. He sang in a cover band from junior high up to college. He taught himself to play piano in college and began writing original songs. He played solo on the coffeehouse circuit and went on to form a 14-piece band that put unusual spins on popular songs. The band caught the attention of some famous fans. Marc Cohn went solo again releasing the debut that made him famous. He is well respected by many other musicians including Carly Simon, Graham Nash, David Crosby, Bruce Hornsby, Patty Griffin, Roseanne Cash and Chris Botti, several of whom have appeared on his albums.

Marc Cohn has four albums to his credit, his 1991 self titled debut, The Rainy Season, released in 1993 and Burning the Daze, released in 1998. In June of 2006 he released The Very Best of Marc Cohn.A live CD Live 04-05 is sold at his concerts.

While on tour in August 2005, Marc Cohn was shot in the head during a carjacking incident. He was hospitalized and released the next day, but the remaining shows were cancelled. He overcame the injury and went on to tour again. Marc Cohn is the most famous graduate of Beachwood High School in Beachwood, just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. He is married to journalist Elizabeth Vargas and is the father of four children.
