Marc Antonio Muniz was born September 16, 1968 and has built a reputation for himself as a Puerto Rican-American singer-song writer who is popular in both Latin America and the United States.
Marc Anthony became Marc Anthony when he wanted to avoid confusion with his namesake (a popular Mexican singer in Puerto Rico). In the beginning, he worked with Menudo and the Latin Rascals as a songwriter and back up vocalist. He would also be a back up vocalist for Ann-Marie, and spent his time writing and singing vocals for various artists for Freestyle. Little Louie Vega and Marc Anthony opened for Tito Puente at New York's Madison Square Garden in 1992. Soon after, Marc Anthony changed his own music style to Salsa and other Spanish music.
Marc Anthony released Otra nota (Another note) in 1993. While the album was mostly in Spanish, it did feature one English track. He went on to tour the Americas and was established as one of the hottest new salsamonga starts. His 1995 release, Todo a su tiempo (All to its time) was nominated for a Grammy Award and the follow-up to that release, Contra la corriente (Against the current) led to even bigger things. Following the release of the album, Marc Anthony performed in front of sold out crowds at New York's Madison Square Garden, and won a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Performance.
Marc Anthony released a self-titled English-language Latin Pop album in 1999. Libre was released in 2001 and went on to be certified gold. Mended was released in 2002. Amar Sin Mentiras (To Love Without Lies) was released in 2004, Valio La Pena (It Was Worth the Grief) in 2004, and most recently Marc Anthony released Sigo Siendo Yo -- The Hits (Still Being Me) in 2006.
Marc Anthony was married to Dayanara Torres for four years until 2004; he married Jennifer Lopez less than a week after their divorce was finalized. Marc Anthony has two children with Torres and another with a different ex-girlfriend.
