Madonna, the queen of reinventing herself, has lasted more than two decades on the somewhat fickle pop scene because she is constantly creating a new image. Pop culture has witnessed Madonna the sex kitten, Madonna the dance queen, Madonna mimicking celebrated 1940s and 1950s Screen Icons, Western Clad Madonna, Madonna the Sophisticated Mom, Anti-Religion Madonna, New-Age Madonna, and a host of other Madonna personas. Whichever Madonna is showing her face, the Queen of Pop is an undisputed cultural icon. As one of the first female pop stars to gain control of her music and her marketing image, Madonna's musical and fashion influence reaches worldwide.

Born Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone in 1958, (believe it or not she's not far from 50 now) Madonna branched out from music to become an actress, author, and activist as well. After studying dance Madonna scored her first club and dance hit with Everybody. Her first Top 40 hit was Holiday, released in 1983. As the most successful female recording artist of all time Madonna has sold more than 200 million albums. Her self-titled debut album in 1983 gave Madonna her first song to hit Top 10, Borderline. The title song from Like A Virgin was the first Madonna song to hit No. 1. Her albums, True Blue (1986), Like A Prayer (1989), Erotica (1992), Bedtime Stories (1994), Ray Of Light (1998), Music (2000), and American Life (2003) have changed in style as she altered her image. Confessions on a Dance Floor, released in 2005, returned to the dance-oriented music that made Madonna a star.

Known for high energy dance-filled tours Madonna has a history of sell out performances. She has garnered awards for her music, her live shows, and her music videos. Several of her videos have created controversy which only seems to fuel the success of Madonna. Her songs and albums have earned Madonna much critical acclaim during the course of her career. Madonna won her first Grammy Award in 1991 for Best Music Video, Long Form for Madonna - Blonde Ambition World Tour Live. She won three more in 1998 for the song Ray of Light. For that song, she won Best Dance Recording, Best Pop Album and Best Short Form Music Video. In 1999, she won her fifth Grammy Award, this time for Best Song Written For a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media for her song Beautiful Stranger, which was featured in the movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Madonna has also won a number of Razzies for worst actress. Madonna has appeared in at least 15 films, often receiving poor reviews and low box office returns. However, in 1996 she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in Evita. And she enjoyed a cult following for her role in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). Listen for her in the filmArthur and the Minimoys in 2006. After the birth of her two children Madonna wrote several children's books, an endeavor she continues to pursue. Madonna has announced a show at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California on April 30, 2006. A tour of smaller, more intimate venues is expected to follow.
