Madeleine Peyroux Information

Madeleine Peyroux was born in 1974 in Athens, Georgia but was raised in California, New York City, and Paris. Her talents include jazz singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Her voice is similar to that of Billie Holiday. She began singing at the age of 15 while living in Paris.

When she was 16 Madeleine Peyroux joined the Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz band, and spent the next two years with them on tour in Europe. Her debut, Dreamland, came in 1996 and was full of her performing songs by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and others. Time would call the release "the most exciting, involving vocal performance by a new singer this year." Madeleine Peyroux would then tour with the likes of Sarah McLachlan and Cesaria Evora.

Madeleine Peyroux spent the next six years in Paris with occasional performances in the United States. She wouldn't release another album until Got You on My Mind and Careless Love, both in 2004.

Her recent release, Half the Perfect World, came in 2006.
