Christopher Bridges (Ludacris) was born on September 11, 1977 in Champaign, Illinois. He eventually moved to Atlanta; he went on to make a name for himself as one of the most prominent Dirty South rappers of the new millennium.
Before becoming a rapper, Ludacris was a deejay at an Atlanta radio station. He used the opportunity to hone his craft on the mic, learn about the industry and make a name for himself throughout the Atlanta area (which was known as the South's rap Mecca in the mid-'90s).
Ludacris first came into the public eye in 2000, with his debut single, "What's Your Fantasy", off his Back For The First Time album. The single and its video, which became an MTV2 hit, also introduced Ludacris to the American audience.
Later he recorded an album, Incognegro (2000), and released it on his independent Disturbing tha Peace label. His next album, Word Of Mouf, was released at the end of 2001. Its lead single, "Rollout (My Business)" gave Ludacris his first taste at a minor mainstream crossover, and the song was a hit on urban radio. In the fall of 2003, Ludacris released his next single, "Stand Up", which appeared on the soundtrack for the teen hip-hop/dance movie, Honey. "Stand Up" went on to become Ludacris' biggest mainstream hit to date, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and garnering heavy airplay on mainstream pop, rhythmic, and urban radio stations, as well as on MTV.
Chicken -N- Beer was released in 2003 and would hit No. 1on the charts on its way to going three times platinum. That same year, Ludacris appeared in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Red Light District was released in 2004, which was then followed by Release Therapy in 2006.
