Linda Marie Ronstadt is closely associated with the prevalent country rock genre of the '70s. Even though she did occasionally write her own songs, she is better known for the interpretation of other artist's work.

Linda Ronstadt was born July 15, 1946 and was already beginning her recording career in the mid- to late-'60s with her band the Stone Poneys. Their first album was recorded in 1967, and she had her first hit single that same year as a member of the Stone Poneys. Eventually she would become a solo artist, releasing her Hand Sown, Home Grown in 1969. Her first hit would come in 1970 with "Long Long Time." Her 1974 album Heart Like a Wheel hit No.1 on ton the charts, as did Simple Dreams and Living in the U.S.A..

Around that time, Linda Ronstadt was seen as somewhat of a sex symbol in rock music, and interest in her hit a high when Rolling Stone published some alluring photos of her. Linda Ronstadt also covered Roy Orbison's "Bleu Bayou" and did a duet with Aaron Neville. Her work with Peter Asher from 1974 through the '80s helped her reach her greatest success. By the end of the '70s, Linda Ronstadt had eight gold and four platinum albums.

By 1983, Linda Ronstadt was releasing albums at the rate of about one a year, and she also co-starred with Kevin Kline and Angela Lansbury in The Pirates of Penzance. In 1987 Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris released Trio, which won a Grammy Award and saw for Top 10 country singles.

During her career, Linda Ronstadt covered songs by the Rolling Stones, the Everly Brothers, George Jones, and Neil Young, to name a few. She released Dedicated to the One I Love, an album of children's music, in 1996. As of 2005, Linda Ronstadt had three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, a No. 1 single on the Billboard 100, 10 Top 10 albums, and 10 Top 10 singles. She has sold 30 million singles and albums, and has won 10 Grammy Awards for pop, country, tropical Latin, and Mexican-American offerings.
