LeAnn Rimes was born in Jackson, Mississippi but was raised in Garland, Texas. Her singing career began with local talent contests. When she was only 11, LeAnn Rimes released her first album through an independent label named Nor Va Jak. Later that year, local disc jockey Bill Mack met LeAnn Rimes, signed her, and began plotting to make her mainstream. LeAnn had her first hit single in 1996 at the age of 13 with the song "Blue" off of her debut album of the same name. The album hit No. 3 in the United States and went six times platinum.
That year, LeAnn Rimes became the youngest artist to be nominated for a Country Music Award when she was nominated for both the Horizon award and the Best Country Singer award; unfortunately, she won neither. In 1997, LeAnn Rimes rleased You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs, which led to an unforeseen achievement. Light Up My Life debuted simultaneously on all three Billboard Magazine charts. Next up came The Early Years: Unchained Melody which included the massive hit song "How Do I Live?" "How Do I Live" hit No. 1 for 32 consecutive weeks. That single meant LeAnn Rimes was also the first Country artist to ever achieve a triple-platinum hit from the Recording Industry Association of America. In 1997, LeAnn also won a Grammy award for Best New Artist, marking the first win for a country singer. Other awards won by LeAnn Rimes that year include an American Music Award, various Academy of Music awards, and a TNN Music City News award.
LeAnn Rimes released another album in 1998 entitled Sittin' On Top of the World. The following year, LeAnn Rimes released a self-titled album, which was filled with 11 of her own unique interpretations of country standards including "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces." Later that year, LeAnn Rimes recorded a duet with Elton John "Written in the Stars," and put on a special Thanksgiving Day concert for the Pope. In 2000, LeAnn Rimes made her feature film debut in "Coyote Ugly." Not only did she make a cameo in the film, but LeAnn Rimes recorded four songs for the soundtrack. Two years later, LeAnn Rimes participated in the Opening Ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her Greatest Hits album was released in 2003, followed by The Best Of in 2004. LeAnn Rimes also released a Christmas album, What A Wonderful World, in 2004. This Woman, the January 2005 and most recent release by LeAnn Rimes, prompted LeAnn Rimes to tour across the United States.
