When Korn was first formed, the members of the band at that time called themselves LAPD. LAPD originally stood for Love and Peace Dude but was changed to Laughter as People Die. When Jonathan Davis joined the band in 1993, the name was forever changed to Korn.
Korn made their debut in October 1994 with the release of their debut self-titled album. That was followed up with “Life is Peachy,” an October 1996 release. “Life is Peachy” debuted at No. 3 on the charts, and earned Korn a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song “No Place to Hide.” The release of the album coincided with Korn’s first live Internet broadcast. August 1998 saw the release of “Follow the Leader,” the third album by the band. “Follow the Leader” is generally viewed as their breakthrough album after hitting No. 1 on the U.S. and Canadian charts. The video for “Freak on a Leash” earned Korn a Grammy award for Best Video (Short Form). “Follow the Leader” is the most successful Korn album to date, having been certified five times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
In 1998, Korn started their Family Values Tour. They headlined the tour in 1998 and 1999 and included other acts such as Incubus, Limp Bizkit, and Staind. Korn participated in Woodstock ’99 citing it as one of their more memorable moments as a band. The Family Values Tour took a one-year hiatus in 2000. In 2001 the Family Values Tour hit the road one last time. Korn released “Untouchables,” their fifth album and first release in over two years. The first single of that release, “Here to Stay” earned Korn a Grammy award for Best Metal Performance. “Here to Stay” has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.
Korn’s sixth album, “Take a Look in the Mirror,” was released in November 2003 and peaked at No. 9 on the charts. Their greatest hits album, “Greatest Hits, Volume 1,” was released in 2004, and December 2005 saw the release of Korn’s latest album, “See You On The Other Side.” The 2005 “See You On The Other Side” album debuted at No. 3 on the charts. Korn began a world tour in February 2006. Beginning in the United States and Canada, the Korn World Tour then heads overseas and is scheduled to run well into 2007.
