Kid Rock was born as Robert James Ritchie but eventually changed his name to Kid Rock after hearing "look at that white kid rock" from early audiences. After dropping the "white," he became known simply as Kid Rock. Kid Rock's hip-hop career began at the age of 15, but his music since expanded to include rap and country. When he was only 18, Kid Rock signed on to tour with Ice Cube and Too $hort. In 1991, Kid Rock reportedly drew 700 fans to The Majestic in Detroit and that show was talked about for years after.

Kid Rock released his first album, Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast, in 1989. When Kid Rock attended an autograph session at Record Time in Roseville, Michigan, there was a dispute between him and another up-and-coming artist. The artist? None other than Marshall Mathers III, who would later become known as Eminem. Following that incident, Kid Rock and Eminem became friends, and have been ever since. Both of them have made guest appearances on one another's album. Kid Rock released The Polyfuze Method in 1993 and Early Morning Stoned Pimp in 1996. Two years later, Kid Rock signed with Atlantic Records and released Devil Without a Cause.

Devil Without a Cause was awarded Diamond status by the Recording Industry Association of America after going Platinum 11 times in the United States. Devil Without a Cause spawned 5 hits, including "Badwitdaba," "Cowboy," and "I Am the Bullgod." Kid Rock's 2000 follow-up, The History of Rock, was composed of previously unreleased recordings including the Grammy-nominated "American Bad Ass." The History of Rock hit No. 2 on the U.S. charts, and went triple platinum. The 2003 follow-up, Cocky, hit quadruple platinum and was on the Billboard 200 charts for more than 100 weeks following its release.

Kid Rock has been nominated for Grammy awards, has won a Billboard Music Award, and a Favorite Male Pop/Rock honor from the American Music Award. Kid Rock has always been an avid supporter of the United States military. In 2001, Kid Rock, J. Lo, and Ja Rule put on a massive U.S.O. show at the Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Two years later, Kid Rock visited Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq as a part of the U.S.O. tour for the troops serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Kid Rock only went to sign autographs, but when was overcome by the 1,000s that appeared. Kid Rock then put on a show using instruments designed for a military band. Now in 2006, Kid Rock is gearing up for a concert tour in support of his upcoming live release, Live Trucker.
