Kenny Loggins was born on 7 January 1948 in Everett, Washington, USA. Kenny Loggins moved moved to Los Angeles in his teens, he recorded with two little known late-'60s rock bands (Gator Creek and Second Helping). He achieved recognition as a staff writer for Wingate Music. Kenny Loggins wrote four songs used on a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album in 1970, among them the hit "House at Pooh Corner".
In 1970, Kenny met Jim Messina a former Poco /Buffalo Springfield member, who now works as a staff producer at CBS. He came to prominence as a member of Loggins And Messina from 1972-77. Through most of the 70s, Loggins and Messina amassed two platinum and five gold albums, worldwide super stardom, and a distinguished list of classic hits such as "Danny's Song," "Love Song," "Your Mama Don't Dance," "Vahevela," and many more.
In 1976, Loggins & Messina broke up and Kenny decided to launch is solo career. He initially specialized in rock ballads such as "Whenever I Call You Friend", a 1978 US Top 5 hit which was co-written by Melissa Manchester and had harmony vocals by Stevie Nicks. His first three albums" Celebrate Me Home," "Nightwatch, "(which included the hit "Whenever I Call You Friend") and "Keep The Fire" all went platinum and sold millions. The albums where all in the cheerful, sensitive style he had displayed in Loggins & Messina. In 1985 his self-produced album "Vox Humana" was certified gold.
In 1979, Loggins enjoyed a Top 20 hit with "This Is It" and co-wrote the Doobie Brothers' million-selling US chart-topper "What A Fool Believes" with the band's singer, Michael McDonald, and earned a Grammy for song of the year. The US Top 20 hit "Don't Fight It', meanwhile, was a collaboration with Journey singer Steve Perry. "This is It" took the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal.
During the 80s, Loggins made a name for himself as a writer and performer of theme songs for the new breed of Hollywood movies. Beginning with 1980's Top 10 hit "I'm Alright" (from Caddyshack) and 1984's chart-topping title song from Footloose (also a UK Top 10 hit), he reached his commercial peak with the soundtrack of Top Gun in 1986. As well as co-writing several of the songs used in the movie, Loggins recorded the US number 2 hit, "Danger Zone". This was followed by music for 1988's Caddyshack II, including another US Top 10 hit, "Nobody's Fool". "Footloose" was nominated for an Academy Award as was "For The First Time," which was featured in the film, "One Fine Day." Following his Divorce his 1991 album, "Leap of Faith," spawned four Top 5 Adult Contemporary singles. Six years later he concurrently released an album and book detailing his remarriage.
The most successful Kenny Loggins recordings in recent years have been two children's albums named after his first ever hit song, "House At Pooh Corner", which the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band took into the US charts in 1971.
