Kem Information

Kem Owens, now known only as Kem, was born in Nashville, Tennessee but raised in Detroit, Michigan. The R&B singer/songwriter/producer struggled with homelessness, addiction, and isolation from his family after he finished high school. Eventually he would turn to music and spirituality to help him overcome those issues.

Kem wrote, produced, and financed his self-titled debut album Kemistry by way of waiting on tables and singing at weddings. Eventually he was signed by Motown Records, and they would re-release the album on February 25, 2003.

His follow up release, Album II, came out on May 17, 2005. The hit single "I Can't Stop Loving You" hit No. 1 on the charts. Album II has since been certified gold. Kem claims that he doesn't create music for the mainstream hip-hop/R&B crowd; rather, he would create it for those who enjoy the most soul/jazz sound.
