Canadian singer and songwriter Kathryn Dawn Lang (better known as k.d. lang) was born November 2, 1961 in Consort, Alberta. She released her first album, A Truly Western Experience, in 1984. Her follow up, Angel with a Lariat, was released in 1987. Her collaboration with Roy Orbison for "Crying" earned a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals.
Her 1989 album, Absolute Torch and Twang, won k.d. lang an Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. "Full Moon of Love," also off of that album, became a hit in the summer of 1989.
Ingenue, released in 1992, featured her most popular single in "Constant Craving." K.d. lang won another Grammy Award, this time for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. "Miss Chatelaine" was also a Top 10 hit. Salmonberries, released in 1993, was not met with great reviews. K.d. lang released a few more albums, and added another Grammy Award to her list of accolades when she won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her and Tony Bennett's collaboration for A Wonderful World. Her most recent release, Reintarnation, was in 2006.
In addition to her work as a singer/songwriter, k.d. lang is also known for her lesbianism and activism for gay causes. K.d. lang is also a strong advocate of vegetarianism.
