Kanye West Information

Kanye Omari West was born in Atlanta, raised in Chicago, and now lives in Hoboken, New Jersey. Kanye West studied at the International Academy of Art and Design in Chicago, and then went on to Chicago State University. He didn't last long before dropping out and beginning to work on his music career. In the beginning, Kanye West started producing for artists such as Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, and Janet Jackson.

Even though he was admired for his producing abilities, it took Kanye West quite some time to get signed. In 2004, Kanye West released College Dropout, which went on to sell 5 million copies worldwide due in part to the success of the single "Jesus Walks." "Jesus Walks" earned Kanye West a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song.

Kanye West released Late Registration in 2005. Late Registration sold 904,000 copies in its first week of release, and has since gone on to sell four million copies worldwide. The single "Gold Digger" featured Jamie Foxx and was at No. 1 on the US Hot 100 for 10 weeks, as well as hitting No. 1 on the U.S. Pop 100, the U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop, and the U.S. Rap charts.

The release of Kanye West's third album, Graduation, is scheduled for December 2006.
