Juan Gabriel Information

Mexican singer and songwriter Juan Gabriel specializes in Mexican ranchera, ballad, mariachi, and pop music. Born Alberto Aguilera Valades in 1950, he started his career under the name Adan Luna performing in clubs and for local television. He changed his name to Juan Gabriel when he got a recording contract in 1971.

Establishing himself as a songwriter he wrote songs for the leading Latin artists. Juan Gabriel broke into film in 1975 and went on to work as an arranger, producer and songwriter for many artists. In 1984, he scored his biggest hit, "Querida" (Lover), which stayed for over a year on the top of the hits chart. He has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, mostly in Spanish-speaking countries.
