John Clayton Mayer was born October 16, 1977 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He began playing guitar at the age of 13, and began playing in bars in the area two years later. When he was 19, John Mayer enrolled in the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts but eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia.

John Mayer's debut album Inside Wants Out was released in 1999, and when he appeared at the South by Southwest Music Festival in 2000, he was quickly signed by Aware Records. His major-label debut Room For Squares was released in 2001. John Mayer would go on to win a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2003 for "Your Body is a Wonderland." He won another Grammy Award in 2005 for the single "Daughters" off of Heavier Things, and for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

In the spring of 2005, John Mayer formed the John Mayer Trio with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan, and they released TRY! in November of that year. The trio disbanded in March 2006.

John Mayer is scheduled to release Continuum in the fall of 2006. It will be his sixth release but only his third studio album.
