John Cameron Fogerty was born Mary 28, 1945. Best known for his time with Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Fogerty began his music career in the mid '50s. John and his brother Tom formed the Blue Velvets, who would eventually be renamed the Golliwogs.
By 1968, the band now known as Creedence Clearwater Revival had released their self-titled debut album. In 1971, Tom left the band. Shortly after, John Fogerty threatened to leave CCR if Stu Cook and Doug Clifford would not agree to write and sing one third of the next album, Mardi Gras. As that turned out to be their last release, John Fogerty branched out as a solo artist.
John Fogerty began his solo career under the name of Blue Rangers in 1973. His debut featured him playing all the instruments while covering other artists' hits. His self-titled 1975 release saw two minor singles, but it wasn't until 1985's Centerfield that John Fogerty found success. The album hit the top of the charts, and "The Old Man Down the Road" was a Top 10 hit. The follow up was less successful.
In 1993, CCR was invited to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but John Fogerty refused to participate with his former bandmates. His 1997 release Blue Moon Swamp would earn him a Grammy Award in 1998. John Fogerty would not release another album until 2004's Deja vu (All Over Again).
John Fogerty was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame with Bill Withers, Steve Cropper, Robert B. and Richard M. Sherman, Isaac Hayes and David Porter. He most recently released The Long Road Home in 2005, which came out as a DVD in 2006. John Fogerty spent 2006 on tour with Willie Nelson.
