Country music singer Jo Dee Messina has had several No. 1 hits and two platinum albums. Born on August 25, 1970, Jo Dee Messina formed her own band by the age of 16. By 19, East Coast native Jo Dee Messina packed up and went to Nashville, Tennessee, and immediately met and became good friends with Tim McGraw.
Jo Dee Messina was signed by Curb Records while backstage as McGraw's guest at Fan Fair in the early '90s. Her self-titled album was released in 1996, and "Heads California, Tails California" hit No. 2 on the charts and would eventually go gold. Yet her delayed second release and money management issues had her flirting with bankruptcy. Her sophomore release, I'm Alright, hit the Top 10. Three straight singles hit No. 1, and Jo Dee Messina became the first female country artist to have three consecutive No. 1 songs off of one album.
I'm Alright, released in 1998, was certified double platinum. In 1999, Jo Dee Messina was recognized as Billboard's most-played female country music artist. In the early 2000s, Jo Dee Messina continued to have a string of Top 10 and No. 1 hits. Greatest Hits was released in 2003, and it debuted at No. 1 on the charts. Her most recent release was 2005's Delicious Surprise.
