Jimmy Buffett is the first name that comes to mind when you think of a tropical party. Jimmy Buffett concerts have become more of an event than a performance, with his Parrothead fans often showing up for more than one night. His easy-going humor shows up in his lyrics and he knows how to play hard. One of the keys to Jimmy Buffett's success is that he never takes life , or himself, too seriously.

Jimmy Buffett is a singer, sailor, pilot, and an environmental campaigner. Jimmy Buffett started out singing in clubs in New Orleans, Louisiana. With a degree in history and journalism, Jimmy Buffett was hired in 1969 as the Nashville, Tennessee, correspondent for Billboard magazine. In Nashville he recorded his first album with little success. His record label claimed to have 'lost' the master tapes for Jimmy Buffett's second album. Undaunted, Jimmy Buffett switched labels and released 'A White Sport Coat and Pink Crustacean' in 1973. Album three 'Living and Dying in 3/4 Time,' received good reviews, and contained the single "Come Monday".

Buffet was introduced to Key West, Florida after a promised job in Miami didn't materialize. The seedy side of Key West provided much inspiration for Jimmy Buffett. He applied his brand of humor and brought the tales of smugglers, servicemen, and shrimpers to life in his songs. Jimmy Buffett developed a cult following in the South. Fans bought Jimmy Buffett tickets and he was filling venues for three or four days in a row before he had a hit. Eventually he developed a road band. The original Coral Reefer Band included Harry Daily, Michael Utley, and Greg 'Fingers' Taylor.

The 'Changes in Latitude' album, was the first recorded with The Coral Reefer Band. It spawned the classic Jimmy Buffet hit 'Margaritaville.' The album was recorded in Miami instead of Nashville. In 1977 Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers opened for the Eagles, his first big exposure with headliners.

A second million-selling album, 'Son Of A Son Of A Sailor,' was released in 1978. 'You Had To Be There' live double album was also released to record sales. This album awakened people to Jimmy Buffett's natural on stage charisma. Still, Jimmy Buffett receives little or no radio exposure. His style can not be pigeonholed so the radio stations don't know where to put his music. Nevertheless, it has been quite a party since then. His fame spread through word of mouth, and Jimmy Buffett developed a loyal following of national fans. Jimmy Buffett's 'License to Chill,' released in 2004, features a range of country music's hottest names including Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, George Strait, and Clint Black. Jimmy Buffett's country-oriented 'License to Chill' topped the Billboard 200 in its first week of release, making it his first-ever No. 1 on any chart. Jimmy Buffett has been featured on a range of films. Among them is Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Urban Cowboy, Elmopalooza!, and From the Earth to the Moon. He's been the featured guest on Saturday Night Live and is the only musical performer to ever hold a concert at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Jimmy Buffett has also developed a line of clothing, created a chain of clubs and restaurants, acted in film, and written novels. In 2006 he appeared in the family film Hoot and wrote the soundtrack.
