Born on April 28, 1950, James Henry Nuir-Leno is better known as Jay Leno, the host of NBC's The Tonight Show. Prior to being the host of The Tonight Show, Jay Leno was a stand-up comedian who performed at various night clubs. Even when all he was offered was five minutes of stage time, Jay Leno took the offer. He began to make a name for himself through his nice demeanor and strong work ethic both on- and off-stage.

Jay Leno was a frequent guest of Late Night with David Letterman. Jay Leno was soon chosen by the executives at NBC as the guest host of The Tonight Show when Joan Rivers left. And when Johnny Carson retired in 1992, Jay Leno was chosen as The Tonight Show host following a period of debate and negotiations between Jay Leno and David Letterman. After David Letterman signed a deal with CBS, there was a late-night rivalry between the two hosts. The Tonight Show has taken over as the late night show with the highest rankings. Jay Leno's The Tonight Show show received Emmy awards in 1995 and 1996 and was voted "Favorite late night show" by TV Guide in 1999 and 2000. The show is known for Jay's outlandish skits and his infamous "jaywalking" questions.

Throughout his career as a host for The Tonight Show Jay Leno has also been involved in other kinds of televised entertainment. In 1998, Jay Leno and band leader Kevin Eubanks were invited to guest star on WCW Road Wild 1998. In 2002, Jay Leno had a professional team build him a robot named "Chin Killa" for the show Battlebots. One year later, Jay Leno switched places with Katie Couric to co-host the Today Show alongside Matt Lauer. Jay Leno has also appeared as himself in a few movies and in some TV shows. Leno also raised $360,000 for the two towers fund by signing and auctioning off one of his many motorcycles.

It was announced in September 2004 that Jay Leno would be retiring in 2009. His replacement is scheduled to be Late Night host Conan O'Brien.
