Jars of Clay formed in Greenville, Illinois in the early 1990s. The band combines pop, folk, rock, and mild electronica to make their own unique sound. People often refer to Jars of Clay as a Christian rock band. Rather than feature songs about morals, Jars of Clay songs are more or less about the Biblical theme of redemption.
Jars of Clay released their demo in 1994 to the Gospel Music Association and were selected as finalists. Eventually, they would travel to Nashville and win the contest. When they returned to Illinois, the band would record and release Frail. Jars of Clay would sign with Essential Records and release their self-titled album in 1995.
Two years later, Jars of Clay released Much Afraid, which earned them a Grammy Award. It was followed by If I Left The Zoo in 1999. It would earn Jars of Clay their second Grammy.
Their fourth release, The Eleventh Hour, came in 2002 and would earn them a third straight Grammy. Jars of Clay released the double-disc Futhermore: From the Studio, From the Stage and Who We Are Instead.
Redemption Songs was released in 2005 and was followed by Good Monsters in 2006.
