Izthak Perlman is an Israeli violinist and teacher and is regarded as one of the greatest 20th century violinists. Certainly one of the most famous violinists, Izthak Perlman was born August 31, 1945 in Jaffa (which is now part of Tel Aviv). When he was younger, he caught polio and had to learn to walk with crutches. Izthak Perlman still uses them to get around and plays the violin while seated.

Before moving to the United States, Izthak Perlman studied at the Academy of Music in Tel Aviv. Once he was in the U.S., Izthak Perlman studied at the Juilliard School. Izthak Perlman made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1963.

He began playing in Tel Aviv and in 1987 Izthak Perlman joined the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra for their concerts in Budapest and Warsaw. He would tour with them again in 1990 and in 1994.

Izthak Perlman won an Academy Award for his part in the score of Schindler's List in 1993, and was the violin soloist for 2005's Memoirs of a Geisha. He has won Grammy Awards for Best Chamber Music Performance, Best Instrumental Soloist(s) Performance with (and without) Orchestra, Best Classical Album, and Best Engineered Album, Classical.
