The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra was originally founded in 1945. After a 43 year hiatus, the orchestra was reestablished in 1991 and is currently under the direction of John Mauceri. The orchestra itself includes 80 classically trained musicians from all over the world. The critically acclaimed Hollywood Bowl Orchestra tours world-wide and has appeared on recordings for Philips Classics. Featured guests of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra's concerts have included Tony Bennett, Harry Connick Jr., Garth Brooks, Charlotte Church, Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti, and the San Francisco Ballet, among many others.

Pieces from recent films, including Chicago, Evita, The Mask of Zorro, and Batman are also played during The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra's performance. The popular Movie Night concerts feature pieces only from film and accompanying film clips projected a big screen. The orchestra also recorded the soundtrack for the motion picture That's Entertainment III.

Other television appearances include the Hollywood Orchestra Fireworks Finale Concert from the Hollywood Bowl, which was telecast live in 1994 and again in 1997 and 1998. For these performances, the director, Mauceri, was nominated for an Emmy in 1995, 1997, and 1998; he won the Emmy in 1995 and again 1998.
