Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson front the band Heart. Beginning in 1963 in Seattle, Washington as Army, Heart was formed by bassist Steve Fossen and brothers guitar/mandolin player Roger Fisher and producer Mike Fisher. Ann Wilson joined the band in 1970, and she and Mike Fisher would move to Vancouver a few years later.
Nancy Wilson joined the group shortly after that, and she got together with Roger Fisher. Soon enough, the band garnered a following in Canada and was signed to the Canadian label Mushroom. Dreamboat Annie was released in 1976, with the addition of keyboardist Howard Leese and drummer Michael Derosier. The album went platinum even before it was released in the United States.
In 1977, Heart moved to the CBS affiliate Portrait and soon found themselves engaged in a legal battle with Mushroom. In the end, Little Queen was released through Portrait in 1977 but was not as big a hit as their debut album. Dog and Butterfly was released in 1978, and it showed the decline of Heart's popularity. Roger Fisher left the group, as the Fisher/Wilson romances came to a close.
Fossen and Derosier left the group when their sixth album, Private Audition, was released in 1982, and were replaced with bassist Mark Andes and drummer Denny Carmassi. Heart broke into the pop scene in 1983 with the release of Passionworks when they switched to Capitol Records. That release saw four Top 10 hits.
After a brief hiatus, Heart came back with Desire Walks On in 1993. They released two live albums in the '90s, and went on another hiatus. Their most recent release, Jupiter's Darling, came in 2004. It marked their first studio album in 11 years.
