Hapa Information

Barry Flanagan, Nathan Aweau, Charles Ka'upu, and Malia Ann Kawailanamalie Petersen (Hula) make up the Hawaiian band Hapa. Hapa draws their music from the ancient Polynesian rhythms and genealogical chants, the strummer ballads of Portuguese fisherman, Spanish cowboys, and the melodies and harmonies of church choirs.

The Maui Times claims that Hapa is the "most exciting and beautiful contemporary Hawaiian music the world knows!" Hapa manages to blend together the unique musical sounds of Hawaii. They released their self-titled debut album in 1993, and it went on to sweep the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, which are the Hawaiian version of the Grammy Awards Hapa would go on to become the biggest-selling album by a Hawaiian artist. The group has performed sold-out shows from Tokyo to New York.
