Fleetwood Mac was one of the most popular bands of the late 70's. However, their success wasn't achieved very easily. It wasn't until after making a drastic genre switch, from British blues to polished pop rock, that they enjoyed mainstream success. The main reason for the genre change was due to a change in band members. The only two that stayed during the entire duration of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie. At first, Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer gave them their blues-ish sound. Later, their final grouping, including Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, were the ones that really defined the group and helped give them the popularity and familiarity they still enjoy today.

Still, the band still had a threat to long-lasting success. Relationships within the group threatened to tear it apart, but instead of letting some bad happenings get in the way of success, they used it to create their best album. 'Rumours' is very intimate on the group relationships, which is in part why it is so successful and in the top ten best selling albums of all time.
