Edward Joseph Mahoney originally had plans to be a New York police officer. He even spent time in the New York Police Academy and with the NYPD, while spending his nights as a singer for local bands as Eddie Money. Soon, Eddie Money quit his job with the police force and decided to pursue his singing career full-time. He moved to Berkley, California, and eventually got the attention of Bill Graham. Bill Graham signed Eddie Money to his management company and got him a contract with Columbia Records.

Eddie Money rose to fame in the late ‘70s, right at the height of album rock popularity. His self-titled 1977 release gave Eddie Money his first hit. "Two Tickets to Paradise" is still one of his more often-played singles. Even though Eddie Money wasn't known for his voice, he did have offer audiences catchy, blue-collar rock ‘n roll as evidenced by 1978's Life for the Taking and 1980's Playing for Keeps. Early in his career, Eddie Money was able to overcome the new idea of MTV through a series of funny, narrative videos. Unfortunately, Eddie Money's rock ‘n roll lifestyle caught up with him in the mid-‘80s and resulted in a battle with a variety of addictions. At the same time, his popularity began to take a hit.

Once Eddie Money sobered up in the late ‘80s, he found himself making a comeback. "Take Me Home Tonight," the duet with Ronnie Spector, and the Top 20 hit "I Wanna Go Back" resulted in the 1986 release of Can't Hold Back hitting the Top 10. The 1988 Nothing to Lose featured the Top Ten hit "Walk on Water." Two years later, Greatest hits: Sound of Money, had "Peace in Our Time" which hit No. 11. "Peace in Our Time" was the last hit by Eddie Money. In the ‘90s, Eddie Money released various albums, none of which succeeded. Eddie Money was subsequently dropped from Columbia. The rest of the ‘90s saw Eddie Money continue to tour, but this time on the oldies circuit. Eddie Money released Ready Eddie in 1999, and a 2001 The Best of Eddie Money, a greatest hits album. Eddie Money's 22nd album, Wanna Go Back, was released in early February either through special order or by attending one of Eddie Money's concerts.
