Duncan Sheik was born November 18, 1969. After graduating Phillips Academy in 1989, Duncan Sheik spent the beginning of his musical career playing for other artists (such as Lisa Loeb and Liz Mitchell of Liz and Liza). Eventually, he would get the attention of executives at Atlantic Records, and would release his self-titled debut album in 1996.
Duncan Sheik featured the hit single "Barely Breathing," which lasted 55 weeks on the charts. He also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for that same song.
Duncan Sheik would go on to release four more albums, including his most recent, 2006's White Limousine. He also wrote the foreword toThe Way of Youth: Buddhist Common Sense for Handling Life's Questions by Daisaku Ikeda. Duncan Sheik is involved with the lay Buddhism organization Soka Gakkai International.
