Allman Brothers Band founding member Forrest Richard Betts was born on December 12, 1943. Before the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts was part of the Second Coming. The Allman Brothers Band was formed in 1969 and Dickey Betts had a huge hand in contributing to the trademark two lead guitar sound.

When Duane Allman died in 1971, Dickey Betts took over as the band's only guitarist but also took on singing and songwriting responsibilities. He was responsible for such classics as "Jessica" and "Ramblin' Man," which was the Allman Brothers biggest commercial hit.

Dickey Betts released his first solo album in 1974. Highway Call featured Vassar Clements on the fiddle. After the Allman Brothers Band fell apart in 1976, Dickey Betts and Great Southern was released one year later. The Allman Brothers Band would eventually get back together, but Dickey Betts was fired from the Allman Brothers Band in 2000. Dickey Betts tours with Dickey Betts and the Great Southern.
