Dane Cook Information

Comedian, actor, writer, director, and producer Dane Cook caught America's attention with his observational humor. Influenced by the work of comedians Bill Cosby, Johnny Carson, George Carlin, and Red Skelton, Dane Cook set a goal in his childhood to one day appear on Saturday Night Live. He started performing stand up in 1990 at the age of 18. By 1995 he had moved from Boston to Los Angeles and was doing stand up every night and had made minor strides breaking into television and film. The Dane Cook stand-up television debut was on The Late Show with David Letterman in 1997. In 2000, Dane Cook appeared in a half hour segment on the Comedy Channel.

Dane Cook made history when he used $25,000 of his own money to launch DaneCook.com and built a cult following through the internet. Other comics criticized the act but Dane Cook proved its effectiveness, at one point selling out shows with no other publicity except the website. The slang terms Dane Cook uses for common retail establishments often find their way into the American vocabulary, for instance, the BK lounge is what Dane Cook calls his teenage employer Burger King.

Dane Cook's 2003 debut release on CD and DVD Harmful If Swallowed has sold more than 450,000 copies in less than two years. His sophomore album, Retaliation, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, making Dane Cook the highest-charting comedian in 25 years. Dane Cook has also co-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live for a week. In 2005 Dane Cook became one of very few comedians to ever host SNL, realizing a lifelong dream.

Accolades Dane Cook has received for his work as a stand-up comic include being named Rolling Stone Magazine's "Hot Comic," winner of Comedy Central's Stand-Up Showdown, and Stuff Magazine's "Coolest Comic of the Year." At this point Dane Cook can sell out stadiums. He tours and is currently working on a number of projects with HBO as well as film roles.
