Adam Duritz and David Bryon formed the Counting Crows in San Francisco in 1991. Originally an acoustic band, the Counting Crows began playing shows in Berkley and San Francisco. After adding a few members, Counting Crows released their debut August and Everything After in 1993. The single "Mr. Jones" would eventually become Counting Crows' biggest radio hit on its way to reaching No. 1 on the charts.
Counting Crows released Recovering the Satellites in 1996, and This Desert Life in 1999. The 2002 release of Hard Candy featured a cover of the 1970 Joni Mitchell song "Big Yellow Taxi." Counting Crows released a best of album, Films About Ghosts, in 2003. In the summer of 2004, Counting Crows released the single "Accidentally in Love" for the Shrek 2 soundtrack, which was then nominated for an Academy Award.
While the Counting Crows released New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall in 2006 (which was taken from their 2003 tour), there are rumors of a new Counting Crows album in 2007. Adam Duritz and David Bryon are still with the band, and the most recent line up includes Dan Vickrey, David Immergluck, Jim Bogios, and Charles Gillingham.
